A smaller payment at checkout does not tell you whether you used your miles well. On Emirates, compare the all-cash price, Cash+Miles price and Classic Reward price before choosing. They answer the same travel need in different ways.
We checked the programme explanations on 5 November 2026. The numbers below are deliberately hypothetical: no flight was priced, booked or held for this example.

Cash+Miles is not a discounted Classic Reward
Cash+Miles uses Skywards Miles to reduce a cash payment. Emirates does not publish one fixed conversion rate; the applicable rate appears on the payment page. A Classic Reward is a separate flight reward, and taxes remain payable in cash. Use the final cash due, not an assumption that a reward ticket is free.
Emirates itself recommends checking both quotations. That does not mean the two fares have identical conditions or that either always beats cash.
One fictional flight, three ways to pay
- All cash
- AED 1,000
- Cash+Miles
- AED 800 + 15,000 miles
- Classic Reward
- AED 300 + 30,000 miles
Editor-created inputs, not Emirates prices or a conversion offer. Assume the same fictional flight, passengers, cabin, baggage and fare conditions; each cash total includes all cash due. No reward-seat availability is claimed. Use your own quotations in the calculator
Against the same cash alternative, Cash+Miles saves AED 200 for 15,000 miles: 1.33 fils per mile. The Classic Reward saves AED 700 for 30,000 miles: 2.33 fils per mile.
At our editorial baseline of 2 fils per Skywards Mile, the hypothetical Cash+Miles option ties cash at AED 1,100; the Classic Reward ties at AED 900. Those are break-even cash fares, not prices offered by Emirates. The assumed miles and cash due must stay fixed for that comparison.
In this constructed example, the Classic Reward uses more miles but gives more cash saving per mile. Cash+Miles preserves more miles while reducing the bill less. Neither observation tells us what you should book on a real flight, particularly if the refund rules, bags or flexibility differ. Rewards earned on a paid fare are also excluded here, not assumed to be identical.
Keep a three-quote record
- Match the trip. Record the flight, date, passengers, cabin, baggage and currency. Use the cash fare you would actually buy; note any different change or refund rules.
- Capture all cash due. Record the all-cash total, then the final cash and miles for each miles option. Do not compare a headline miles amount with a tax-inclusive cash price.
- Run each option separately. In the Cash or Miles calculator, keep the same cash alternative and enter each option’s miles and cash due. For Cash+Miles, the cash-due field means its whole remaining cash payment, not just taxes.
- Recheck before committing. Read the applicable fare conditions and refresh the quotations. A better calculation cannot make a non-matching fare or unavailable seat comparable.
