IHG's pick-your-points promotion ends 31 August — nine days to register, and which option you pick is night-count arithmetic

IHG One Rewards' Choice Promotion — register for either 2,000 points every 2 nights or 8,000 points every 4 nights, both uncapped — covers stays through 31 August 2026. Registration must come before the stay, and the right pick depends entirely on how many IHG nights you have left this month.

Update, 7 September 2026: the Choice Promotion’s stay window closed on 31 August 2026 and registration is no longer possible. The story stays as a record of how the two options compared.

IHG One Rewards is in the final nine days of its Choice Promotion: members register for one of two offers — “Earn 2,000 points every 2 nights” or “Earn 8,000 points every 4 nights” — and both carry “unlimited earning ability”, so there is no cap to allocate stays against. The Promotion Period covers stays “beginning May 20, 2026 and ending on August 31, 2026”, which is now a countdown.

The ordering rule comes first, as it always does: members “must first register their member number for one of two available offers”. Register first, stay second — a night completed before you register earns nothing. Residents of “a country in the Middle East” are on the eligible list (China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are not), so a UAE-based member registering from here is fine. What counts as a Qualifying Room Night is defined by the offer page’s terms — read them before assuming a rate qualifies.

The pick is arithmetic, not preference

You register for one option, so choose against the IHG nights you actually have left before month-end:

  • 4 or more nights by 31 August — take the 8,000-per-4-nights option. That is 2,000 points per night effective, double the other option’s rate, and it repeats without a cap: 8 nights is 16,000 points.
  • Two or three nights — take 2,000-per-2-nights. Three nights under the 4-night option pays nothing; under the 2-night option the first two nights pay 2,000.
  • One night — neither option triggers. Register anyway if a second night might materialise; registering costs nothing.

The trap is picking the bigger headline number with a two-night staycation booked: 8,000 points you will never trigger is worth less than 2,000 you will.

What it means for UAE members

We are not putting a dirham figure on this one: IHG One Rewards is not yet on our valuations table, and we do not guess. The honest framing is unchanged regardless — this pays on IHG nights you were staying anyway, at a Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental or voco already in your calendar before 31 August. Manufacturing a stay to chase an unvalued currency is the wrong side of the arithmetic.

If a qualifying stay is booked, the whole task is a two-minute registration done before check-in, with the option matched to your remaining night count. More hotel-desk coverage is on the hotel news index; live offers we track sit on the deals page.
