What the miles saved

The reward saved AED 480 in cash before counting the value of the miles. Convert that saving to fils and divide by the miles used. That yields 4.80 fils per mile for this comparison, before any rewards you would earn on the paid ticket.

At our editorial baseline of 2 fils per Etihad Guest Mile, the cash fare would have to fall to AED 335 to tie the reward, assuming the reward price stays the same. This is not an Etihad exchange rate or a general valuation of the programme.

Which fare should you compare?

The cheapest cash option did not include a checked bag, so we used the cash Value fare instead. If you would actually travel with cabin baggage only, price the cheaper fare in the Cash or Miles calculator before using miles. And if you might change the flight, read both sets of rules first: the reward had a higher change fee and did not allow changes close to departure.

Before you move bank points

Check availability and the full payment amount again. If you are short of miles, use the UAE Transfer Finder to check your exact rewards currency and the issuer’s current transfer conditions. Nothing was booked or held for this comparison.
