Reward currencies
Liv card spend accrues points rather than direct AED — redeemable as cashback against the card or convertible to Emirates Skywards Miles, with a 500-point minimum per redemption. The unusual part is how the earn rate is set: it is a tier determined by your total spend that month, applied to all of that month's spend, not a flat per-category rate. That makes Liv one of the few UAE digital-first issuers with a genuine miles exit route from an entry-level cashback card — but the headline rates only arrive at the top spend tiers.

Liv is Emirates NBD’s digital-only brand — a standalone app, a standalone card lineup, and a distinctly un-bank-like registration flow, all sitting on ENBD’s banking licence and ATM network. The Liv Key Facts Statement is explicit that “Liv” is a brand owned by Emirates NBD Bank PJSC, which matters for the expat reader in two ways: your deposits sit with one of the UAE’s two largest banks, and your service relationship runs entirely through the Liv X app rather than a branch counter. There is no branch. If that sentence bothers you, Liv is not your bank; if it doesn’t, Liv is one of the fastest routes to a functioning UAE account and credit card, because application and approval are handled in-app end to end.
Card ladder at a glance
Liv issues two credit cards to the expat market (a third, Tamayaz, targets UAE Nationals and is outside our current coverage) — and, unusually, you can hold only one of the two. Choose before applying.
- Liv Cashback+ Credit Card — the Mastercard World tier. AED 700 joining fee and AED 700 annual fee (the joining fee is waived with an active Liv Max subscription), 1.99% FX. Cashback is tiered by total monthly spend: the guaranteed floor is 1%, rising to 2% and to the advertised 4% only in months where total spend clears AED 15,000. Capped at AED 1,500/month, with an additional bound tied to a percentage of your credit limit. Perk stack includes 800+ airport lounges, VOX cinema tickets and travel medical insurance.
- Liv Cashback Credit Card — the free-for-life Mastercard Platinum tier. Same tier-by-total-spend mechanic at lower rates: 0.75% floor, 1.5%, then 2% at AED 10,000+ of monthly spend, capped at AED 750/month. Same 1.99% FX fee, lighter perks.
Note what is not in that list: a published minimum salary. Liv does not state one on the product page, the feature terms or the KFS — approval is an in-app decision — which is why our spec tables show the salary bar as “Pending” rather than an invented number.
Reward currency, in plain English
Liv spend earns points, and the points have two exits: cashback against the card, or Emirates Skywards Miles — up to 10,000 Miles a month on the Cashback+ and 5,000 on the Cashback, with a 500-point minimum per redemption. That Skywards route is the quietly interesting part of the proposition. Most UAE entry-level cashback cards are a dead end for the miles collector; Liv’s are not, and because the brand sits inside ENBD — Skywards’ banking partner of longest standing — the conversion is a first-party feature rather than a promotional bolt-on. The catch is the tier mechanic: the advertised headline rates require serious monthly spend, and government, utility and similar low-margin categories earn 0.1% whatever tier you reach. Read the card reviews for the arithmetic.
Salary transfer and eligibility
Liv runs rate-based salary benefits, not the banded cash bonuses that populate our salary-transfer tracker. The current campaign pays 6% interest p.a. on savings in a Goal Account when your salary lands with Liv, and the historic Bonus Multiplier programme paid account interest scaled by salary band — in both cases the reward is a deposit rate, not an upfront AED amount. That is why Liv appears in the tracker’s coverage note as checked-with-no-live-banded-offer rather than as a row in the table: there is no cash figure to rank. For a reader choosing where to land a salary purely for the joining bonus, RAKBANK or the current tracker leader will beat a deposit rate; for a reader who wants a low-friction digital account and will hold savings anyway, 6% on a Goal Account is a genuine number worth checking against the campaign terms in-app.
Eligibility across the board is app-assessed. UAE residency is required; beyond that Liv publishes no salary minimum for its cards, and our policy is to print “Pending” rather than guess.
Customer-service notes
There is no phone-first service channel to recommend: Liv support runs through in-app chat in the Liv X app, with liv.me as the public reference for rates, fees and terms. Cash access rides on Emirates NBD’s ATM network, which is as dense as UAE ATM coverage gets. The practical trade-off is the same as every app-only bank: routine servicing is faster than a branch visit, and anything unusual — a disputed transaction, a document request — depends on chat queues. As with all UAE issuers, AECB reporting and Central Bank Debt Burden Ratio rules apply as standard.
Bottom line
Liv suits the expat who wants ENBD’s balance sheet without ENBD’s paperwork — a fast in-app account, a credit card with no published salary gate, and a rare Skywards exit from an entry-level product. Take the free-for-life Cashback card as a low-stakes first UAE card; take the Cashback+ only if your total monthly spend genuinely clears the upper tiers, because at the 1% floor its AED 700 annual fee is hard to justify. Look elsewhere if you want banded salary-transfer cash, branch service, or headline rates that don’t depend on how much you spent that month.
